Nobody needs reminding that 2020 was an unusual year, but one of the changes forced by the pandemic may be revived for 2021, according to a new report from DigiTimes.

Final year, rather than introducing the iPhone 12, Apple Watch 6 and M1 MacBooks in ane large showcase, Apple had three online launches spread betwixt September fifteen and Nov 10. This was, in office, because of the pandemic, with the iPhone's typical September launch consequence pushed back to Oct, reportedly due to supply chain bug.

  • Everything y'all need to know about the MacBook Pro 2021 fourteen-inch
  • Plus: iPhone 13 Pro alleged photos prove a massive camera

This time around, co-ordinate to DigiTimes' unnamed sources, Apple will exercise the same once again, but with a much tighter schedule. The visitor will reportedly host "a series of production launch conferences in September," with one plainly defended to the 9th-generation iPad (though presumably too including the rumored iPad mini six.)

If true, that could theoretically include up to iv events for a gruelling one-per-week schedule: one for iPhone 13 handsets, one for the Apple tree Sentinel vii, 1 for the redesigned 2021 MacBook Pros and another for iPads.

That sounds similar an unnecessarily tight timeframe to piece of work to, though, and we retrieve it'due south unlikely that Apple volition go down that road. These events take a lot of preparation, and putting on one per calendar week for a month feels like a tall guild.

More than probable is that Apple tree could hold two events in September — maybe ane for the iPhone xiii range and one for iPads and Apple Spotter — with the MacBook launch coming later in the fall.

This is all pure speculation on our part, of grade, just it does support something that well-continued Bloomberg reporter Marking Gurman mentioned in passing in a recent Power On newsletter, where he said that Apple would concord multiple events in the autumn — admitting without the specific mention of September for all of them.

There are, of grade, clear benefits to holding multiple events from a marketing perspective: it means that reporters roofing launches have space to give everything a off-white write upwards, without having to prioritize the well-nigh interesting things covered.

But if Apple tree prefers to speak directly to consumers, so the opposite is true. Co-ordinate to MacRumors, nearly two one thousand thousand people tuned in for Apple's 2019 event where the iPhone eleven was unveiled.

And Apple took the opportunity to expose those captive eyeballs to other products including the Apple tree Picket v, seventh-generation iPad, Apple Arcade and new shows coming to Apple TV Plus. If each of those had its own event so, bluntly, far fewer people would know that Apple Arcade exists today.

If the DigiTimes study proves accurate, so Apple's ain information must show that last twelvemonth's pandemic-enforced schedule was actually benign for both media and consumer interest in its products. But given last year was far from normal, with more people stuck at home and looking for streamed entertainment, it would be brave to bet on the same outcome in 2021, when things are a bit more open.

We shall have to run across what happens when the invites begin to go far in the side by side couple of weeks.
